!! WELCOME TO WESTVIEW !!
I am so excited to be working with your children this school year here at Westview Elementary School within Fitzgerald Public Schools. I am a certified teacher for general education grades K-8, graduating from Central Michigan University in May 2011, and I have a Masters in Education in Special Education, Autism emphasis from Oakland University as of August 2014. I also have a Masters from Central Michigan University in Curriculum Development and Instruction as of December 2016. Previously I have worked as a middle school special education teacher, kindergarten teacher, and even an Early Childhood Special Education para-professional. I've just about done it all!
I designed 'Shine a Light on Autism' with you, the parent, in mind. I have truly been blessed to work with all my student's parents in promoting independence and getting assistance for their student's educational needs. Working with all these parents and children are what ultimately drove me to further my education about autism and special education.
So with that, I give you 'Shine a Light on Autism'. It is filled with information about the history of autism and Asperger's Syndrome, etiology (causes) of autism and the educational evaluation process to determine eligibility for special education services. I have also included a references page with support websites that are available and a 'Recommended Reads" page with books that I recommend to you if you'd like more information and personal stories of autism!
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
